TT Muslims Continues Hurricane Relief Operations Across Western Jamaica

Jamaica, December 19 2025: The Concerned Muslims of Trinidad and Tobago (CMTT) has continued its humanitarian relief operations in Jamaica, delivering emergency supplies to communities affected by Hurricane Melissa over the past three days, from Tuesday through Thursday.

The latest distributions follow earlier relief efforts carried out immediately after Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica. Hurricane Melissa was one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes on record and the strongest ever to hit Jamaica. It made landfall on Oct. 28, 2025, near New Hope, Westmoreland, Jamaica, with sustained 185 miles per hour winds and a central pressure of 892mb. This distribution forms part of CMTT’s ongoing response to the widespread damage caused by the hurricane.

Relief Delivered to Multiple Parishes

The relief mission was led by Brother Manwar Ali and Imam Shaul Ali, who coordinated a volunteer team primarily drawn from the Spanish Town Mosque. The team travelled extensively across western Jamaica, reaching towns in the parishes of St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, and Hanover, areas among the hardest hit by the storm.

According to CMTT, volunteers spent up to 18 hours per day on the road, navigating damaged infrastructure and long distances to ensure that relief supplies reached affected families.

Transition to Local Distribution

CMTT confirmed that Brother Manwar Ali and Imam Shaul Ali will conclude their on-the-ground work in Jamaica as of Thursday evening. Responsibility for completing the remaining distributions will now be transferred to the Spanish Town Jamaah (congregation), which will oversee the continued delivery of food supplies and building materials.

In addition to distributing supplies, the Jamaah has committed to assisting selected households with construction materials and labour, particularly in cases where homes were significantly damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Melissa.

Appreciation for Donor Support

CMTT expressed gratitude to its donors and supporters for their continued contributions, noting that the community’s response has enabled the organization to sustain relief efforts beyond the immediate aftermath of the hurricane.

Photographs and video footage documenting the past three days of distributions have been made available by the organization.

Statement from CMTT

“CMTT is extremely grateful to all our donors who continue to respond positively whenever the call is made. May Allah continue to grant success to you and your families.” Imtiaz Mohammed, CMTT’s Public Relations Officer said in a statement.
