A transformative new movement has arrived at the intersection of faith and creative expression. The Institute for Qur’anic Reflection and Arts (IQRA) Foundation has officially launched, positioning itself as a dynamic platform for the Trinidad and Tobago, Caribbean, and international Muslim communities.
A Legacy Reimagined
Founded by Mtima Abdul Ghany Solwazi, an ARTivist educator and recipient of Trinidad and Tobago’s 2025 National Hummingbird Silver Medal, the IQRA Foundation represents a modern continuation of the spirit of Iqra Productions Ltd. Inspired by the Qur’anic command “Iqra” (Read/Recite), the non-profit is dedicated to advancing Islamic knowledge through storytelling, media, and the arts.
Flagship Initiatives
The foundation aims to empower communities through various digital and traditional media formats, including film, photography, and spoken word. Key programs include:
- Islam Chose Me: A storytelling platform focused on journeys of faith and identity.
- Emancipation through ISLAM: An acronym for Inspire, Strengthen, Lead, Advance, and Mobilize, this initiative celebrates Muslim pioneers and “New Era” groundbreakers.
- I Slam: A spoken word platform designed to amplify creative expression rooted in social consciousness and truth.
Building a Global Community
Beyond content creation, the IQRA Foundation is committed to providing mentorship and technical training to equip individuals with ethical grounding and professional skills.
The organization is actively seeking strategic collaborations with both Muslim and non-muslim institutions to foster global dialogue and social change.
The foundation’s call to action is simple yet profound: Read. Recite. Reflect.
