The Forgotten Muslims of the Atlantic Slave Trade: Recovering a Lost Chapter of Islamic History

Every year, Emancipation Day reminds us of one of humanity’s darkest chapters: the transatlantic slave trade. We remember the millions of African men, women and children who were captured, transported across the Atlantic, and forced into lives of bondage. Yet within that history lies a chapter that is too often overlooked: the story of the thousands of Muslims who were among the enslaved.





Pioneering Haitian Imam Passed Away

Imam Bilal Doxa reported the death of Imam Ali (Marc Pierre Dubuisson) of the Masjid Al Fatiha. Imam Ali was a Haitian Muslim pioneer who led the revival of Islam in Haiti. Imam Bilal said that he was “the first one to give dawah (invitation to Islam) in Haiti and the oldest imam of the country when he passed away”.  Ali was a Pastor until he converted to Islam in Canada in the year 1985.
