When the 2026 edition of The Muslim 500: The World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims was released by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Amman, Jordan, one name on the list carried special meaning for Barbados: Suleiman Bulbulia.
For those who know him, this recognition felt not only fitting but almost inevitable. For decades, Suleiman has been a steady and compassionate presence in Barbadian public life; an advocate for community development, interfaith harmony, and social justice. His calm conviction and tireless dedication have earned him respect far beyond the shores of his homeland.
Yet, when asked about the honour, Suleiman’s response reflected the humility that has long defined his service:
“Alhamdulillah, Praise be to Almighty Allah. I am extremely humbled and deeply honoured to be recognized as a new entrant among The World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims, in the 2026 edition of The Muslim 500. To be listed alongside global leaders, esteemed scholars, Shaykhs, Imams, and changemakers is truly a blessing and mercy from the Almighty.”
For Suleiman, leadership has always been about service, not status. His 23 years as Secretary of the Barbados Muslim Association, a position he relinquished in 2023, were marked by a focus on building bridges within society and empowering the next generation. Reflecting on that journey, he shared:
“I remain immensely grateful for being selected to serve in that role for 23 years. The opportunities provided me as secretary of the Association allowed me to serve both Barbados and the wider global community. I am very appreciative to all those who assisted, counselled, and stood by me on this journey. I certainly could not have achieved anything without the help of Almighty Allah and the support of family, relatives, colleagues, friends, and my brothers and sisters in faith and in humanity.”
His words embody the essence of his philosophy, that true leadership is defined not by the positions we hold but by the lives we touch. As he beautifully expressed:
“True leadership is not defined by titles, positions or accolades; it is measured by our commitment to making the world a better place for others. Alhamdulillah, grateful for every blessing, lesson and opportunity to serve.”
Suleiman’s inclusion in The Muslim 500 is a milestone for Barbados and the wider Caribbean Muslim community. It acknowledges not only his personal dedication but also the island’s growing role in shaping thoughtful, compassionate, and globally engaged voices.
At Caribbean Muslims, where Suleiman has long been a frequent contributor, this recognition feels deeply personal. We’ve witnessed his unwavering sincerity, his sense of duty to both faith and humanity, and his passion for using words and actions to uplift others.
As Barbados celebrates this proud moment, we join in saying: Alhamdulillah (all praise and thanks to Almighty Allah) for allowing one of our own to represent us on the world stage.
May Suleiman’s journey continue to inspire many to lead with humility, serve with purpose, and believe that even from a small island, one voice, sincere and steadfast, can echo across the world.
The Caribbean Muslims Editorial Team extends warmest congratulations to Suleiman Bulbulia on this outstanding global recognition. His decades of service, faith-inspired leadership, and unwavering commitment to humanity embody the very values we seek to celebrate and amplify. May this milestone serve as an inspiration to all who strive to make a positive difference in their communities, wherever in the world they may be.
