The Muslim Communities in the region are taking steps to fulfill their social and civic duties.  Congregational prayer and events have been cancelled and most mosques are closed in the various Muslim communities.  The leadership of the communities took rapid action to heed the impact of COVID-19 by ceasing the weekly communal sermon and prayer held on Fridays (Jumu’ah).

There is increasing concern that the annual month of fasting, Ramadan (which is tentatively set to begin on April 24th), with its nightly congregational prayer will be adversely impacted. The situation is being monitored and appropriate actions (as mandated by public health authorities) would be put into place.
