Trinidad & Tobago Muslims Deliver Lifeline to Post-Hurricane Jamaica

In the wake of the devastation left by Hurricane Melisa, the Concerned Muslims of Trinidad & Tobago (CMTT) have once again demonstrated what true regional solidarity and Islamic compassion look like. With many communities across Jamaica still reeling from the storm’s destruction, CMTT has mobilised swiftly, moving from emergency relief to long-term rebuilding.

A 40ft Container of Hope

CMTT volunteers loaded a 40-foot container filled to capacity with essential relief supplies bound for Jamaica. The shipment reflects the breadth of needs on the ground and the generosity of the Trinidadian public. Packed inside were:

  • A wide assortment of food items
  • Hygiene and sanitation products
  • Clothing for families who lost everything
  • Building materials to assist with repairs
  • Bottled water
  • Tools for cleanup and reconstruction efforts

This container represents just one part of a much larger, coordinated humanitarian response.

Second Container: 300 Mattresses for Displaced Families

Recognising the urgent need for safe, comfortable sleeping arrangements, CMTT has arranged for a second 40-foot container carrying 300 brand-new mattresses. These are being shipped directly from the factory in Trinidad to ensure the fastest delivery possible.

For many families sleeping on floors, in damaged homes, or in temporary shelters, these mattresses will bring immediate comfort and dignity.

More to Come: Third Container to be Loaded

Relief efforts are far from over.

A third container, also expected to be filled with additional essential supplies, will be loaded on Tuesday. Community members continue to donate generously, ensuring that vital aid continues to flow to the people of Jamaica.

On-the-Ground Support: A CMTT Team Heads to Jamaica

To ensure transparency, fairness, and direct service to those most affected, CMTT will deploy a team to Jamaica several days before the containers arrive.

These volunteers will join trusted partners on the ground to coordinate logistics and oversee distribution in the hardest-hit regions. The goal is simple: to ensure aid reaches those who need it most, without delay or complication.

Rebuilding Lives: Wooden Structures for Vulnerable Families

Beyond immediate relief, CMTT is shifting into reconstruction mode. Plans are underway to build wooden housing units to shelter families who have been left vulnerable or displaced by the hurricane.

This effort highlights CMTT’s commitment not just to emergency response, but to restoring dignity and stability for Jamaica’s least fortunate populations.

A Heartfelt Thank You

In a message from Imtiaz Mohammed, PRO of CMTT, heartfelt gratitude was extended to everyone who contributed, whether through donations, time, resources, or supplication (dua).

“CMTT would like to thank everyone for their contributions to this Disaster Relief Project.” Imtiaz Mohammed, Public Relations Officer, CMTT

A Regional Ummah United

The swift and compassionate actions of CMTT serve as a reminder of what is possible when communities come together, guided by the spirit of brotherhood, empathy, and service. As Jamaica rebuilds from Hurricane Melisa, the people of Trinidad & Tobago and the wider Caribbean stand firmly by its side.

May God reward all those who contributed, protect the volunteers, and bring relief and comfort to the people of Jamaica.

Ameen.
