Muslims In The Dominican Republic

Alhamdulillah (All praise belongs to God).  We are a small community in Santiago City, Dominican Republic.  We began with four people, in my dental office for Jumma (Friday sermon & prayer) time. Then we rented a space where we established the Masjid Nur Al Din. We have more than a hundred Muslims.

Santiago de los Caballeros–[or simply Santiago (English: Saint James of the Thirty Knights)] named after the 30 Spanish aristocrats who followed Columbus and settled in 1495–was the country’s first capital before it suffered an earthquake in 1562. Today, the Dominican Republic’s second largest city–affectionately dubbed “Ciudad Corazón” or the city in the heart of the Cibao Valley.
