Celebrating Guyana’s Independence Through a Legacy of Service in Canada.

Upon Receiving: The High Commissioner’s Excellence Award

It is with deep humility and sincere appreciation that I accepted the High Commissioner’s Excellence Award, presented by the High Commission of Guyana in Canada, from Hon. Grace Joseph upon my return home to Canada, on behalf of High Commissioner His Excellency Keith George.

Recognition in any form is meaningful. But when it comes from the official representatives of one’s homeland—from the very nation that shaped one’s roots and identity—it carries a special and heartfelt significance. This act of diplomatic recognition by the Government of Guyana is not only an honour but a deeply personal affirmation of the value of service to others.

I extend my warm congratulations to all the fellow recipients. It is truly inspiring to be included among such an outstanding group whose achievements reflect the strength, resilience, and diversity of the Guyanese diaspora in Canada. From coast to coast, Guyanese-Canadians continue to make significant contributions across all sectors—academics, business, the arts, and civic life—enriching the fabric of this beautiful country.

Faith-based institutions have also played a crucial yet quiet role in this journey. Whether through mosques, temples, or churches, these spaces have nurtured values of service, compassion, and solidarity. The IMO Mosque, one of the earliest Muslim establishments in the Greater Toronto Area, has been a space that welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, striving to meet both spiritual and social needs.

Service has never been about recognition—it has been about meeting people where they are, addressing shared challenges, and building a sense of belonging. Whether responding to community concerns or helping to navigate broader societal issues, such as housing and equity, the goal has always been to uplift, support, and unify.

This award, beautifully designed with the map of our beloved Guyana, serves as a powerful reminder of our shared heritage and continuing responsibilities. I thank the High Commission team, especially Hon. Grace Joseph (who arranged an award presentation on behalf of Guyana’s High Commissioner at the Toronto Office), for this meaningful gesture. May this moment of recognition serve as motivation for deeper collaboration and continued service to our community and the generations to come.
