A grateful Guyana gives thanks for Kuwaiti assistance

President Bharrat Jagdeo presents a plaque to Mr. Adel Jaree of Zakaat House in Kuwait.

PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday met with Director of Projects Zakaat House, Kuwait, Mr. Adel Jaree and members of the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) at his State House residence, Main Street, where he presented a plaque to Mr. Jaree in recognition of the Government of Kuwait and Zakaat House’s support to Guyana.

The Zakaat House in Kuwait is a non-profitable organization which currently supports more than 80 orphans and vulnerable children here. The programme provides every child with a stipend in addition to medical and tuition fees, text books and other basic needs.

One of the most important donations that Kuwait has made is the Cesium Unit to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, which is used in the treatment of cervical cancer. The organization is interested in other humanitarian projects in Guyana.

According to the Vice President of CIOG, Mr. Sultan Rahaman, Kuwait, has been doing charitable work in Guyana for over a decade.

Mr. Jaree, who is actively involved in humanitarian work in Kuwait, also presented a plaque to President Jagdeo for the Guyana Government’s support to the humanitarian projects that are being conducted by CIOG and Zakaat House in Guyana.

Other officials of the CIOG witnessed the presentations.
