The Qur’an (Arabic: القرآنal-qur’ān, literally "the recitation"; also sometimes transliterated as Qur’ān, Koran, Alcoran or Al-Qur’ān)is the word of the Lord of the Worlds.  Revealed by God to His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him), to bring mankind forth from darkness into light:

“It is He Who sends down manifest Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to His slave (Muhammad) that He may bring you out from darkness into light [Surah (Chapter of) al-Hadeed 57:9 – English interpretation of the Quranic Verse]

God has told us in the Qur’an  the stories of the earlier and later generations and the creation of the heavens and the earth. He has explained in detail what is allowed (halal) and what is forbidden (haram), the basics of good manners and morals, the rulings of and dealings with others, the lives of the Prophets and the righteous, and the reward and punishment of the believers and disbelievers. He has described Paradise, the abode of the Believers, and He has described Hell, the abode of the Disbelievers. He has made it (the Qur’an) an explanation of all things: “And We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’an) as an exposition of everything, a guidance, a mercy, and glad tidings for those who have submitted themselves (to God)”

Is the present Gospel the same that God had revealed to Prophet Jesus?

The Merits of Reciting the Qur'an

    10)  The Houses in which the Qur’an is Recited Become Illuminated to the Inhabitants of the Heavens

Al-Bayhaqī has reported on the authority of ʿĀʾisha (R) that the Prophet (PBUH) said:  “The houses in which Qur’an is recited glow to the inhabitants of the Heavens the way in which the stars glow to the inhabitants of the earth.”

Al-Ḥakīm al-Timidhī reports on the authority of Abū Hurayra (R) and Abū Dardāʾ (R), “The houses of the believers are as lanterns in front of the Throne [of God].  It is recognized by the inhabitants of the seven Heavens.  They say: ‘This light emanates from the homes of the believers who recite the Qur’an.’”

    11)  Recitation of the Qur’an Purifies the Heart

Al-Bayhaqī relates in Shuʿab al-īmān on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar (R) saying, “The Messenger of God (PBUH) said: ‘This heart rusts as iron rusts when exposed to water.”  It was asked: ‘O Messenger of God what is its purifier?’  He said: ‘An abundant remembrance of death and recitation of the Qur’an.’”

    An Explanation of Surat al-`Asr

Sūrat al-‘Asr or ‘The Chapter of Time' is a small Sūrah that gives us a very profound reminder. It tells us precisely how susceptible human beings are to suffering terminal loss if they do not spend their time properly and how they can avoid loss by investing their time wisely. It sums up all the elements of individual and social success in life.
